The Marshfield community’s “healthy living together” slogan for a new community walking trail will become a reality, thanks to several donors and groups in attendance for the project’s groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday, Dec. 20, behind the Marshfield Senior Center.

A seven-person walking trail committee was formed to design, apply for grants and develop funding capital for the project. Those involved are the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, GRO Marshfield’s health committee, the city of Marshfield, Marshfield Senior Center, Senior Housing neighbors, Missouri Department of Conservation and other area business partners.

Phase I of the project will involve a paved trail, sidewalks, benches and lighting. The budget is approximately $54,000, which includes concrete, rock, lighting, benches, supplies and labor costs. The community trail will have approximately 1,500 linear feet of 6-foot wide paved lit trail and sidewalks that connect the senior center to the senior housing development and another sidewalk connecting the trail to Buffalo Street.

MoBikeFed comment: This type of project is becoming more and more common in communities large and small all across Missouri.
