Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Oak Grove Village is continuing to move forward with improvement projects within the village with the completion of a $550,000 sidewalk project that covers some 3,300 feet of Springfield Road, now owned by the Village. . . .

According to Ray, over the last several years the village has noticed a large increase in the number of people walking on the side of Springfield Road to the shopping district of the Village. Springfield Road is the former Route 66 and was constructed without shoulders and forced residents to walk in the ditches or on the roadway, both presenting hazards to adults and despicably children.

MoBikeFed comment: This type of situation, where there is considerable pedestrian demand because of high-value destinations along a busy road, but no sidewalks or even shoulders where pedestrians can walk, is all too common in Missouri.

Kudos to Oak Grove Village for recognizing the problem and taking pro-active steps to address it.
