Work to upgrade riverfront trail in KC area underway - KSHB

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

A new grant will help Kansas City, Kansas resurface and extend a walking trail to help people live healthy lives.

The KCK Levee Trail follows the Kansas River, curving around Armourdale in a mostly industrial, sort-of rugged area. . . .

When the project is complete, the trail will wind up through Kaw Point to Fairfax, with views of the river along the way. . . .

When Wyandotte is ranked the unhealthiest in the state year after year, the revamp is needed.

"It's important people have the opportunities to get out and walk and ride bikes in a place they feel safe," Behrens said.

Phase two will take the trail near Kemper Arena.

MoBikeFed comment: This trail segment has been under discussion for nearly two decades, and positive progress to move it forward is very welcome. The trail will connect to KC's Riverfront Heritage Trail via a recently completed trail connection near Kaw Point, and from there to both downtown Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri.
