Third Ward Councilman Karl Skala said he has been advocating for the project, part of the GetAbout Columbia program that encourages use of non-motorized transportation and uses federal funds, since his first term on the council from 2007 to 2010. The project is in Skala’s ward and he said it’s important for residents living in the area.

“This has been in the works for quite some time,” Skala said, noting other improvements had already been made on the east side of Clark Lane.

“Sidewalks were not included when this area was built. This is long and coming and will help pedestrian traffic flow,” he said.

Pedestrians can frequently been seen walking in the grass alongside the hilly, narrow stretch of Clark Lane. The sidewalks on the north side of the strip will provide protection to those walking to bus stops in the area.
