Imagine an urban walking and biking trail that starts at Wonders of Wildlife and snakes through downtown, before making its way to historic Commercial Street.

Local residents could use it to bike or walk from one part of the city to another. Tourists, visiting for a sporting event, academic conference or to see Wonders of Wildlife, could use it to explore a new neighborhood or district.

That's a vision shared by Springfield Mayor Ken McClure and other community leaders.

Councilman Richard Ollis said connecting "one of the biggest tourist attractions in the state of Missouri" with the commercial districts of downtown and Commercial Street would be a "real game changer for our community."
