The St. Charles County Council approved plans to turn an area near the Katy Trail into a subdivision, but a number of changes were made before the green light was given.

For months, people who live and visit the area near the proposed development have spoken out against the idea of building a subdivision on the land owned by the University of Missouri. The land sits on a bluff above the Katy Trail, next to the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club. There is also a hotel and an industrial park nearby.

St. Charles based NT Homes made several changes to the plan that was approved by county council Monday night. Months ago, the Planning and Zoning Board rejected the proposal to build almost 400 homes. . . .

The County Council voted 5-1 with one member abstaining.

MoBikeFed comment: The development has been opposed by local trail and green space advocates like the Katy Land Trust and Trailnet.

The final plan did have many improvements urged by trail supporters.
