Bicycle, Pedestrian, & Trails Day at the Capitol, Tuesday, April 20th, 2020

14th Annual Bicycle, Pedestrian, and Trails Day at the Capitol

Tuesday, April 20th, 2020. Jefferson City, MO.

  • Registration coming soon.
  • We need volunteers to help make Capitol Day great - volunteer registration coming soon.

Join supporters of bicycling, walking, and trails from around the state as we come together to talk to our legislators about MBF's Vision for Active Transportation in Missouri.

Transportation, recreation, health and fitness, sustainability, tourism, business, economic development, and more are all on the agenda - and we will start with advocacy training to help you effectively communicate with your own Representative and Senator.

Contact Your Legislators

On the sidebar to the right, see a link to look up your own legislators.  Call and/or email to arrange a meeting on Capitol Day.  For most legislators, prime time for meetings on Monday, April 20th, is 3pm-6pm, so plan your day accordingly--but call to confirm a meeting time and availability.

Few other groups hold advocacy events at the Capitol on the first day of the week. This is an advantage to us, because it means far less competition for access to legislators that day.  But it means you must contact your own legislators to confirm they will be there and the time(s) they will be available for meetings.

Schedule - Tuesday, April 20th, 2020

  • 11:00am-5:30pm - Check in/registration desk open (3rd Floor Rotunda)
  • 12:30pm-2:00pm - Gather, displays & exhibits at Governor's Garden (1 block SE of Capitol near Governor's Mansion)
  • 1:30 Legislators Ride, Governor's Garden - more about the Legislators Ride here
  • All Afternoon - Legislator visits - (2pm-5:30pm prime time for this) Legislators are typically in their offices only certain hours on this Tuesday afternoons, so be sure to check with your legislator as to the best time to visit.  First day of the legislative week is a great day to visit your legislator because we will be the only lobby group in the Capitol that day.  But the hours your legislators may be available can be quite limited. Be sure to contact your legislator prior to Capitol Day to confirm.
  • 3:30pm-3:45pm - Orientation/Advocacy Training, 1st Floor Rotunda
  • 4:00pm - Senate session starts (just before/after this is often the best time for meetings)
  • Noon -  House session starts (just before/after this is often the best time for meetings)
  • 5:30pm - Optional dinner (Arris Pizza, across from the Capitol)

Lodging, parking, transportation, dining
Many options are available near the Capitol building.  Amtrak trains stop in Jeff City twice a day coming from both directions (St. Louis and Kansas City). You can bring your bike on Amtrak.

Exhibitor Information

Do you have an event, agency, business, or organization that works in the area of bicycling, walking, trails, health, fitness, accessibility, disability, or outdoor recreation?

We would love to feature your organization, event, business, or agency at the Capitol to show the breadth of Missouri's bicycle, pedestrian, and trails community.

Note that your organization does not need to participate in lobbying or take a position on any issues in order to participate.  The displays simply show our legislators and decision-makers the breadth of Missouri's bicycle, pedestrian, and trails community.  In addition, you have the opportunity to reach an audience of Missouri's decision-makers from bicycle, pedestrian, and trails groups around the state at our most prestigious annual event in a beautiful setting.

  • 3rd Floor Rotunda Exhibit Area:
    • Setup 11:00am-1:00pm
    • Display area open 12:30-5:00pm
    • Teardown 5:00pm-5:30pm
    • Full table or half-tables available

Table locations are limited, so please sign up soon.

To register for a table/display, please register for Capitol Day and indicate your interest in a display on the registration form.  Please indicate the details (full/half table, ride/3rd floor rotunda, or both) in the comment area on the registration form.
