Ask Kansas City levee districts to allow trail use

In just a couple of minutes you can send an email message to 7 Kansas City area levee districts asking them to allow trail use on area levees.

Citizens have sent 313 emails on this issue--our goal is 200.

But if you have a couple of minutes, even a little personalization of the message (like one sentence) increases the impact a lot. Why do you like use levee trails? Where would you go? How would they increase your quality of life? Why is access to the riverfronts important to you?

Email Subject: *		Background The Kansas City Corps of Engineers is revising the plan for the seven levee districts in the heart of Kansas City along the Missouri and Kansas Rivers. The plan is to improve the levees to withstand projected floods in coming years. Historically, residents of the metro area have been cut off from river access. Most often, between use and the rivers we would like access to are industrial areas and then levees. Most levee districts have posted their areas 'no trespassing'. Now regional trails plans, including MetroGreen, the Riverfront Heritage Trail, and others, have proposed opening up our riverfronts through trail systems on the levees. Many levee districts are open to this idea, which has been successful in many other levee districts across the country. But a few Kansas City levee districts oppose public access bitterly. Public money goes into levee districts by the hundreds of millions of dollars. It is not too much to ask for public trail access in return.
