The I29/I35 project has the potential to connect at least 8 different "travelsheds" in the heart of the Kansas City metro area--important connections that no other project can possibly make. Today these travelsheds are separated by three major barriers: the river, the freeway, and a railroad yard. The I29/I35 project represents the best chance to bridge these barriers for bicyclists and pedestrians in the next 50 years.

Send MODOT a message asking them to follow through on their promise to include bicycle and pedestrian accommodations in the new Paseo Bridge
UPDATE: 10 October 2007 a pedestrian was killed walking in the roadway--the only place to walk in that location--near a Kansas City area river bridge. Like all Missouri River bridges in the area, the Broadway Bridge utterly lacks facilities for walking and bicycling, but people use it anyway because they have no choice. We need to let MoDOT know the time for talk has passed and the time for action is now.
In December 2006, MoDOT announced that they (partially!) supported something that over 2200 area bicyclists and pedestrians had asked for--including a safe, separated crossing for bicyclists and pedestrians as part of the $250 million Paseo Bridge in the Kansas City area.
Also they agreed in principle to carefully consider the needs of bicyclists and pedestrians in the (approximately) 9 cross streets and interchanges that will be affected by this massive project.
MoDOT will be receiving proposals by 24 October 2007 and scoring them soon after that, so they need to hear from many of us between now and then.

Short messages are very effective--just one sentence is great!
PLEASE delete our sentence and explain it in your own words--that is at least 10X as effective.
Please DO be positive, polite, and persuasive. That is what works best . . .
