Kansas City, MO, and Shawnee, KS, are bringing in staff from the League of American Bicyclists to conduct a "Bicycle Friendly Evening" May 21st and a Bicycle Friendly Communities Training Workshop May 22nd.

On May 21st from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., join us for a Bicycle Friendly Evening. This event is free and open to the public. Communities in the Kansas City region are invited to enjoy the benefits of cleaner air, reduced traffic and improved public health. Join us for a conversation about how we can create safe routes for cycling and encourage residents to bike for transportation, fitness and fun. Andy Clarke, President of the League of American Bicyclists and Rebecca Anderson, Advocacy Director for Trek will be speaking on creating a bicycle-friendly Kansas City region. On May 22nd Andy Clarke will lead a Bicycle Friendly Workshop for the Kansas City Region. Trek’s advocacy director, Rebecca Anderson will also speak on building Bicycle Friendly Communities. Elected officials and city staff from the region are invited to participate. This session will take place from 8:15 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Old Shawnee Town Hall, 11600 Johnson Dr. in Shawnee The charge is $45 and registration opens at 7:30 a.m. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Kansas City, Missouri, and Shawnee, Kansas, are organizing the event. Shawnee is currently a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community and wants to move up to silver. Kansas City, Missouri, is just starting the Bicycle Friendly Community process.
