Capitol Day is Postponed
Because of the ice storms and heavy snow in the forecast, Bicycle and Pedestrian Day at the Capitol in Jefferson City (Tuesday, February 1st) is postponed.
We are planning to reschedule Capitol Day for later in the legislative session--we'll let you know the new date soon.
Despite the cancellation, we have several key pieces of legislation moving forward.
Could you take a moment to contact your state legislators and ask for their support for better, safer bicycling and walking in Missouri?
Here is a sample/suggested message:
Bicycle & Pedestrian Day at the Capitol was scheduled for Tuesday, but it's been postponed due to weather. Here is what I would like to have said to you if I had been able to be there in person Tuesday:
I hope you'll do what you can to support better, safer bicycling and walking in Missouri.
[Tell a little about how you became interested bicycling or walking, or
why it is important to you.]
I hope you'll be able to support these bills and resolutions that are supported by the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation and other bicycle and pedestrian groups across Missouri:
- SB 180 - Declaring October Walk & Bike to School Month and May Missouri Bicycle Month. (Sponsored by Senator Will Kraus)
- HB 33 - Requiring motorists to pass bicyclists at a safe distance. (Sponsored by Rep. David Sater)
- Complete Streets Resolution - Encouraging the development of a transportation system that is designed and built to meet the needs of all users--those who walk, bicycle, use transit, drive; the old and the young; people who are able and disable; and congratulating the 14 Missouri jurisdictions that have adopted Complete Streets policies. (Sponsored by Rep. Sally Faith--resolution number forthcoming)
More details about these issues. THANK YOU! When you contact your elected officials about these issues, they
really do listen and it really does make a difference.
