Missouri High Priority Bike/Ped/ADA Projects

Hwy M crosswalk, Barnard (01STJ1233)

Status:

City: Barnard.    Route: Hwy. M    Location: Within the city limits from a point @ the intersection of Hwy M and Hwy WW east to the city limit line would be the preferred area

Type: Crosswalks, Signs

Description:
A painted crosswalk on highway M in Barnad Missouri to allow children to get from the north side of the street to the south side of the street where the city park is located. The Barnard city park lies on the south east corner of the city limits. To date there is no crosswalk across Hwy. M that would allow a somewhat safe crossing of hwy. M for children and families wishing to walk to the park for a picnic or otherwise. Ideally a crosswalk and a children crossing sign would be wonderful but we need not be greedy

Importance:
I don't know how cost effective this is but we have a city park that gets maintained and updated by the residents and the various organizations of the city and we would like to see it utilized more often. As it stnds now most people feel they have to drive to the park (the parking is somewhat limited) and being a small town with limited funding we simply do not have the ability to do this, not to mention it does cross a state road. As far as why is it a good project? You would make some children happy and take some concrn off of some parents.

Obstacles:
Can't see any obstacles. You would simply need a can of white paint a 4x4 post and a children crossing sign and the project would be done (oh and some labor expenses) There would be a need for someone to determine the safest site for placement of the crosswalk to maximize stopping distace etc. if needed.
