Description:
This simple signage and identification project would simply identify a path that would connect different segmants of current trails to the north and to the south of Downtown Hannibal. The trail would run adjacent to the river for three blocks on existing walks or paths. It would also work to protect cyclists and walkers from motorized traffic in the area. There would need to be ADA crossings at the railroad tracks. There may be other miscellaneous barriers to fix so that the path is ADA compliant.
Importance:
It connects current and recent trails projects.
Being ADA compliant, it would provide access to the river to all.
It would clearly separate bike/ped traffic from motorized traffic.
The pavement is already there. This is just signage and striping.
It would assist in "wayfinding" for tourists, getting them to the river and back.
Many local people walk in Nipper Park for exercise. This would extend where they would safely walk.
Visitors from touring riverboats would know where to walk.
Obstacles:
It would cross railroad tracks, but only where there are already crossing gaurds.
