Hwy 150 trail Kansas City (04KCM1248)

Status: Completed
MoDOT and local governments reached agreements to include the trail during road construction. Trail is constructed as of late 2012. Connections to west end of this project to create a connection with Kansas City's trails system is underway. This is the same project as 04KCM1014.

City: Kansas City.    Route: Hwy 150    Location: The section through Kansas City, about Raytown Rd through Pryor Rd

Type: Intersection improvements, Crosswalks, trail

Description:
A trail is planned along Hwy 150 in Kansas City, Grandview, and Lee's Summit between Hwy 71 and 291. Construction has started on the overall project. Part of the construction will include the earth moving to create the roadbed for the trail. Grandview and Lee's Summit have received funding for paving their portions of the trail. The Kansas City portion is not funded. This project is to complete and pave the trail along Hwy 150 between Hwy 71 and Hwy 291. Some portions are already funded, but long portions are not.

Importance:
This creates bicycle and pedestrian connectivity where otherwise there will be none. It is in a high-use bicycling area in the region of Longview Lake. It is part of the regional bicycle and trails plans and will connect through a planned improved interchange at hwy 71/150 to other bicycle routes and trails to the west. This project is supported by District 4 and KCMO staff as one of the most important projects in the region and a large new construction project that could be built without including any bicycle/pedestrian connectivity unless action is taken. It is on the Trails KC plan. A large number of public responses have been received in support of bicycle & pedestrian accommodations on this project.Because much preliminary work will be done during Hwy 150 construction the cost of completing the project will be relatively low.
