Missouri High Priority Bike/Ped/ADA Projects

Independence Ave (Hwy 24) (04KCM1252)

Status: Funded

City: Kansas City MO.    Route: Independence Ave (Hwy 24)    Location: Hwy 24 (Independence Ave)

Type: Sidewalk, bike lane, ADA

Description:
Determine best route to connect the Columbus Park Neighborhood to Cliff Drive (Mo Scenic Byway) across Hwy 24 (Independence Ave). Independence Ave is a barrier to pedestrian and bicycle movement throughout the Northeast neighborhood. Providing safe crossing would allow residents to better use existing bicycle and pedestrian amenities in the Columbus Park Neighborhood and Cliff Drive. Project could also use MoDot & Safe Routes to School Funding to create maps for school children in the two nearby schools. Project would include sidewalk improvements, bicycle lanes striping improvements and ADA improvements.

Importance:
This project is realitively inexpensive in relation to the number of people who would benefit. This neighborhood relies heavily on pedestrian and bus transportation. Cliff Drive is a very popular bicycle and pedestrian destination in Kansas City.
