Missouri High Priority Bike/Ped/ADA Projects

Hwy 5/Rt B junction Boonville - add pedestrian crossing, (05COL1214)

Status:

City: Boonville.    Route: Hwy 5 and Cooper County Route B    Location: Intersection of Hwy 5 and Route B

Type: Shoulder, Sidewalk, Curb cuts/ramps, Intersection improvements, Crosswalks, Signs

Description:
This 3-way stop is not clearly defined for pedestrian crossing. Add pedestrian-activated light-change as in downtown Boonville or at least green/red pedestrian signal lights. Paint and maintain clear cross paths on the roadways. Add/improve sidewalks as needed.

Importance:
Right now a pedestrian has to make quick judgments as to when to cross and pay particular attention to whether drivers see their presence, as there are no markings to point drivers' attentions to pedestrian activity. This situation detracts from both the practical and the aesthetic/tourist use of Boonville. All these pedestrians use this intersection on route to and from major Boonville businesses, from downtown to fast food restaurants, a grocery store, and convenience stores, or from south part of town to downtown.

Obstacles:
None known.
