Hwy 65 bike lanes, Lincoln - Warsaw (05MOS1147)

Status:

City: Lincoln - Warsaw.    Route: HWY 65    Location: between I-70 and Warsaw, about 32 miles

Type: Shoulder, Signs

Description:
Mark the already existing shoulders and smooth them for bicyclists, add share the road signs; create shoulders along small portions where the road is narrow.

Importance:
This is a great north south corridor with mostly existing shoulders, but they are rough and not marked - it would be easy to add signage from I-70 to Sedalia; would connect people to south central Missouri and Truman Lake and western end of Lake of the Ozarks. Most of Hwy 65 from I-70 through Sedalia to Warsaw already has good shoulders. About 14 miles from just north of Lincoln to Warsaw lacks shoulders (some shoulders are very narrow, some are rough, some don't exist; in some areas they are fine). Adding minimum 4 foot smooth paved shoulders through this section would complete a key bicycle link through this part of the state. There is currently no other good way to make this connection. Especially key is the last 3 miles from Hwy T in to Warsaw. There is no other paved road through this area. Hwy 65 is the only available route and the shoulders through this section are pretty sketchy.

Obstacles:
some parts of Hwy 65 are narrow and would require building shoulders, maybe getting wider right of way, I'm not sure
