Bicycle / Pedestrian lane - Grand Avenue along 20th to near Hwy 65, Sedalia (05SED1246)

Status:

City: Sedalia.    Route: 20th street (alternate route to 16th (Y hwy)    Location: east-west route essentially connecting Grand Avenue to Hwy 65. It is an alternate route through exclusively residential area which parallels the very busy 16th street, largely commercial corridor. The area to be developed is approximately 2400 feet long

Type: Shoulder, Sidewalk

Description:
There are no stop signs along this entire segment. Most of the north side is undeveloped land from Grand to Beacon Street or so until nearing the Hwy 65 corridor. The south side is residential with streets incrementally 'teeing' to the north. The speed limit is 30 or 35 mph, but is a common straightaway which encourages some encroachment. There are no sidewalks on either side. A popular park is nearby.

Importance:
It would seem to be a relatively easy fix to establish an additional paved area to the north side of the existing road. It would provide safe travel for both pedestrians and cyclists.

Obstacles:
There are a couple low spots where drainage issues would challenge pavement maintenance. There are also utility poles which could interfere with large excavating machinery. However, these some power line poles invite a complimentary use for their requisite right-of-way.
