Missouri High Priority Bike/Ped/ADA Projects

North Berry Rd, Glendale (06STL1048)

Status:

City: Glendale MO.    Route: N Berry Road    Location: south east boundary of Glendale bordering on Webster Groves MO

Type: Sidewalk

Description:
The interest in this project is to complete a sidewalk on the west side of N Berry Road, approximately between Brownell and Grammercy. This is about four, short blocks where there is no current sidewalk. Parents in the area want a path for their kids walking to Mary Queen of Peace and presented a petition to Glendale City Hall in 2009 signed by over 100 people. Overall project estimate is $600,000 but it can be split into pieces and the most important piece is $180,000.

Importance:
Children are walking to Mary Queen of Peace elementary school through backyards and in roadside culverts along this narrow and busy street due to the lack of a sidewalk. Efforts to remedy this unsafe situation have failed due to a lack of funding from Glendale, St Louis County and the unfunded state Missouri Access To School Fund.

Obstacles:
Narrow road and the road crosses a creek at the bottom of the hill.
