Missouri High Priority Bike/Ped/ADA Projects

Shoulders and Bike Lanes on SR 43, Nevada (07JOP1081)

Status:

City: Nevada to Bronaugh.    Route: HWY 43    Location: From SR 54 to Co. Rd. N along HWY 43

Type: Shoulder, Bicycle Lane, Signs

Description:
The Nevada Trails Coalition would like to provide a link with the Joplin Trails Coalition by way of parts of HWY 43. Phase One would require bike lanes, larger shoulders, and bike "Share-the-Road" caution signs along the stretch of HWY 43 from SR 54 outside of Nevada to Bronaugh. This would be approximately 10 miles.

Importance:
We would like to continue connecting the southern part of the state via cycling trails to invite increasing cycling tourism throughout the beautiful southern half of Missouri. Possible tourism includes the Tour of Missouri, the R.A.M. (Race Across America, which has already come through Nevada in years past), and also local rides and events.

Obstacles:
Money. Hwy 54 and Hwy 43 are not safe for cyclists, and to promote this area of tourism, we must provide safe venues within our area. Currently, we are sorely lacking.
