Perryville PATH (10PAR1067)

Status:

City: Perryville.    Route: Highways 51 & 61    Location: Southern City Limit on Hwy 61 to Hwy 51 Intersection continuing North

Type: Shoulder, Sidewalk, Bicycle Lane, Curb cuts/ramps, Intersection improvements, Crosswalks, Signs

Description:
The City of Perryville currently has 2 seperate hike and bike trails. One in our main city park on Highway 61. A second trail is on the other side of town in the Hwy 51 Soccer Complex. Numerous partial attempts have been made to connect the two trails running through town, including some of Highway 61. This is a goal the city continues to work towards, including a large project this spring. This new, requested section would serve several purposes. First, it would provide an immediate connection between the two trails. Second, it will help finish what the city hopes to be an eventual complete "loop" between the two trails. Finally, instead of offering 2 seperate small trails, we would be able to offer 1 large trail which, it is estimated, would more than triple the the city's current connected length.

Importance:
Hike & Bike trails are a relatively new addition to the town of Perryville. They have been very well recieved and are heavily used by our citizens. The idea of improving our trails by simply connecting them is a novel idea that will pay huge dividends. It also fits nicely with the community's increased focus on health and fitness.

Obstacles:
The primary obstacle is funding.
