Trailnet & St Louis Regional Bicycle Federation merger--more details

Trailnet has released more details about the recent merger between Trailnet and the St Louis Regional Bicycle Federation.  A West End Word article give the lowdown:

Cyclists have a stronger advocate in St. Louis in 2011, thanks to a merger between nonprofit organizations Trailnet and the St. Louis Regional Bicycle Federation.

Jenny Viviano, the event and marketing manager for Trailnet, said that St. Louis Bike Fed approached Trailnet about an acquisition. She said Bike Fed members were unable to continue to provide their services but they wanted to keep promoting their mission. “Since we have a similar mission, it was a natural fit,” she said.

“Trailnet’s mission of promoting active living through programming, policy and planning has always been closely aligned with St. Louis Bike Fed’s work to make the region more bike-friendly,” said Ann Mack, Trailnet’s executive director. “By acquiring their services and strengthening our capacity for advocacy, we will be able to make even greater strides towards livability in the St. Louis region.”

MoDOT Safe Routes to School Grants - Application period Feb 1-Apr 15, 2011

John Schaefer of MoDOT, the Missouri Safe Routes to School coordinator, sent out the following announcement about the upcoming grant application period for MoDOT Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Grants and a series of workshops around the state for those interested in applying for the grants:

I am happy to announce that Missouri's Safe Routes to School program will be accepting grant applications for Infrastructure projects.  The grant cycle will open on February 1, 2011 and close on April 15, 2010.  There will be ten grant application workshops across the state.  The workshops will show you how to apply for a grant and answer any questions regarding the program or potential infrastructure projects. Kansas City: Groundbreaking for first safe, complete bike/ped river crossing today

Today, an event that advocates have been working towards for two decades: MoDOT broke ground for the first barrier-separated bicycle & pedestrian path across the Missouri River.

The path will be on the Heart of America bridge, connecting downtown Kansas City, Missouri, and downtown North Kansas City.

Dignitaries from MoDOT, the Mid-America Regional Council, Kansas City, Missouri, and North Kansas City were on hand--along with a large group of bicyclists, many of whom had bicycled in to the groundbreaking at 10AM on a Wednesday morning.

Over the course of three years, an estimated 1.2 Million spectators from more than 40 states and 20 countries have lined the roads of Missouri to see more than 120 world-class athletes race. The event also has been seen on FOX Sports Midwest, Versus and through live webcasts that have reached viewers in more than 170 countries.
