Mark your calendars for Sept. 9 to 14, 2008. The UCI has.
Union Cycliste Internationale, cycling's international governing body, and USA Cycling have given their blessings to the second Tour of Missouri, scheduled to begin next year on the second Tuesday of September, just as the inaugural event did. The route and host cities will be announced later.
"We couldn't have been happier with Missouri," said Sean Petty, chief operating officer of USA Cycling. "The biggest surprise was the knowledge of the fans. You'd see farmers and their families with signs, people in the towns setting up barbecue pits and lawn chairs. They knew what to do and how to enjoy the race. And the number of people who came out in Kansas City and St. Louis was beyond our expectations. You usually don't see that level of knowledge and enthusiasm in a first-time event."
