Buffalo's Greenway Trail construction to begin in May - BuffaloReflex.com: News

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Amid concerns about the delays in construction of the Greenway Trail, King Coltrin of Great Rivers Inc., Springfield, appeared before the Buffalo Board of Aldermen Monday night to offer an update on the project.

Taking board members through the process step by step, Coltrin appeared to have answered their concerns, adding that if everything goes right, construction on the project should begin in mid- or late May. . . .

The greenway will be from Main Street near the Buffalo Prairie Care Center to the Dallas County Community Park. It can be used for walking and bike riding, but will also be for flood control in the Hickory Street area near Mill Street.

Plans call for the trail to be 12 feet wide, featuring asphalt at least from Main Street to the intersection of Hickory and Mill streets. At a meeting of the Board of Aldermen back in 2013, Coltrin said the project may be able to go even farther with the asphalt. If bids come in well, there may be asphalt all the way to the park.

MoBikeFed comment: This is a great example of a rural community that wants to have a trail in the community and is benefiting from a Transportation Alternatives grant, supplemented with local funds, to make the project possible.
