Missouri legislators are discussing any number of bills this year, but they have laid markers since the beginning of the session that they will not substantially address one of the state’s pressing business issues – long-term funding for roads, bridges and other transportation needs.

Asked about it last week at a legislative briefing in Independence, Rep. Mike Cierpiot, R-Lee’s Summit and majority floor leader in the House, said there are discussions about long-term questions, but he didn’t indicate the likely passage of anything soon.

“There’s talk about a small gas tax increase,” he said. “I don’t think it will pass.”
