HANNIBAL- South River Road (03HAN1232)

Status:

City: Hannibal.    Route: Hwy 79    Location: South of Hannibal at the river

Type: Trail

Description:
Bluff St. south of Hannibal was the major route south of Hannibal until it was replced by Hwy 79. Since that time it was hard to maintain for motorized traffic and was closed. I remains in use by locals for recreation. This project would repair eroded sections and re-open it as a recreation path. It would connect tourist destinations such as Sawyers Creek and the Mark Twain Cave to downtown Hannibal.

Importance:
It would open up a segment of the Cross National Route, the Mississippi River Trail on the river away from motorized traffic. 'It is a spectacular setting along side the Mississippi River. It would allow Visitors to Hannibal to access tourist destinations by bicycle rather than by car.

Obstacles:
Right-of Way may have reverted back to adjacent property owners.
