Description:
In direct discussions, MoDOT has agreed to these elements of the project: 1. Addition of hard asphalt shoulders (4 feet on each side) on Hwy D from Hwy 94 to Hwy DD (approx 6 miles) and on Hwy DD from Hwy D to Sommers Road (approx 4 miles). 2. Asphalt overlay on entire roadway after adding shoulders. 3. Where steep slopes are present at the road edge, re-shape slopes to something flatter. 4. Add rumble stripes at center and edge lines of the road. 5. Install guard rails where necessary.

Importance:
The beauty of this project is that is provides for needs of both vehicles and bicycles, increases safety, and has cost effective advantages. 1. Shoulders added to these narrow winding roadways will reduce accidents, injuries, and they will save lives. Six people have been killed on these roads alone in the past 13 months. 2. Shoulders will provide space for bicycles to travel on the shoulders & not in the automobile lanes, thus reducing the liklihood of automobile/bicycle accidents. Provides safety improvements for both vehicles and bicyles, and affords bicycles safe access not previously avaialble. 3. Shoulders can be added to these roads with no right of way issues - no right of way will need be purchased - makes project cost effective. 4. The rural location of these roads allows shoulders to be added with no requirements to relocate utilities - makes project cost effective.

Obstacles:
There are no known difficulties or obstacles related to this project. No right of way will need be purchased, no utilities will require relocation. MoDOT has surveyed these roads and is completing the design phase.
