Bicycle accommodations on Florissant Road near Florissant (06STL1173)

Status:

City: Florissant, Calverton Park, Ferguson, Cool Valley, Normandy.    Route: Highway N - New Florissant/North Florissant/South Florissant    Location: North County

Type: Bicycle Lane

Description:
Addition of painted bike lanes, sharrows, or some other type of bicycle accommodation along Highway N beginning at Hwy N (New Florissant) and Lindbergh in Florissant and ending at Hwy N (South Florissant) and Natural Bridge Road in Normandy. I believe this road is already wide enough for the lane addition and would only require repainting.

Importance:
Adding bike lanes to this road would connect THREE cycling trails: 1.Sunset Greenway Trail; 2. Ted Jones Trail; 3. St. Vincent Greenway Trail. Many cyclists use this road for commuting and recreational cycling and the current shoulders are not wide enough for safe cycling. Also the sidewalk system contains abrupt shoulders and cannot be used by disabled people so this project would also include ADA benefit. This is a key connection that would have very high use if it were made bicycle friendly. There is no other good way to make those connections via bicycle.
