Missouri High Priority Bike/Ped/ADA Projects

Access to Busch Wildlife Area and Hamburg Trail from Barat Haven/Winghaven, O'Fallon (06STL1175)

Status:

City: O'fallon.    Route: I-64    Location: Barat Haven under bridge along fence inside Busch Wildlife connect to Hamburg or Busch Greenway.

Type: Under a bridge on Hwy 40/61/I-64

Description:
Create a gravel trail system identical to the Katy trail surface through Busch Wildlife area. The trail could follow the fence line from the bridge on Highway 40/61/I-64 near Barat Haven and Winghaven to the old Hwy 40 access to Busch.

Importance:
This trail could provide access great access from O'fallon, Dardenne Prairie, Lake St. Louis to a very large list of trail systems. Busch Wildlife Area(Multiple trails), Weldon Springs Conservation Area(Lewis and Clark Trails), Hamburg Trail, Katy Trail, Lost Valley Trail, Matson Hill Park Trail, Klondike Park Trail, Bangert Island Trails, Creve Coure Lake and Park Trails, and hopefully someday through Busch to Brommelsiek Park via Schwede Road. Imagine a bike ride from from Winghaven to Old Town in St Charles, or Augusta with minimal automobile interaction...

Obstacles:
MDC? Not really. No need to pave a trail that connects to gravel. Keep the trail along the fence line as not impact hunting areas. Natural/Gravel surface is fine. http://www.mapmyfitness.com/route/us/mo/o%27fallon/688126693848084820
