Importance:
With the opening of the new U. S. 71, the lower traffic count on Gateway Drive (MO 175) makes this part of an ideal bicycle connection between Joplin and Neosho. So long as current shoulder surface is maintained whenever roadwork is done, it would take only a marked lane and appropriate signage to make this a safe and, we predict, heavily-used bicycle route.
