The contest involves creating a graphic design for the license plates.
Contest rules:
General design theme and purpose is to communicate the message that bicyclists are legal users of our roads and streets, and to encourage all to share the road safely with bicyclists.
Bonus points for designs that make a visual connection to bicycling specifically inMissouri and communicating a passion for the joy of bicycling.
The winning design will be simple, clear, compelling, attractive, and communicate the theme.
Once the design is selected we plan to hold a separate contest to choose the license plate slogan that will be used in place of the "Show-Me State" slogan on typical license plates. However, designers should include a suggested slogan in their design (or even integrate it into the design--see the "Ducks Unlimited" sample plate below). Most states with similar license plates use the slogan "Share the Road", but other slogans are possible.
Designs will be judged by a combination of Missouri bicyclist input (via a poll on the MOBikeFed web site) and the decision of the MoBikeFed board. In consultation with the designer, the MBF board may adapt or alter the chosen design, choose elements of two or more of the submitted designs, or choose to accept no submitted design. Decision of the MBF Board will be the final.
Designs will be due March 25th, Midnight. Designs selected by the MOBikeFed board will be posted to the MOBikeFed web site in April for citizen feedback.
Designs should be submitted in electronic format to director[at]mobikefed.org
If you are interested in entering the Design-A-License-Plate contest, please email director[at]mobikefed.org to receive a copy of the license plate specifications & design information.
All submitted designs become the sole property of the Missouri Bicycle Federation, Inc., and the submitter agrees to assign all rights to the design and any intellectual property associated with the design to the Missouri Bicycle Federation, Inc.
Prizes: Your main prize will be the joy and pride in having your design displayed on thousands of vehicles across Missouri, helping to make Missouri a better, safer place to bicycle. But we also have some small tokens of appreciation lined up for the winning entrant.
The winning design and designer(s) will be featured on the MoBikeFed website and in other appropriate ways.
Is this becoming a reality? Last I knew, MO was
not approving any new specialized license plates because of a legal dispute
with a small group over hate speech/censorship. Is that done?

Yes, we had a special bill in the General
Assembly this year. That bill (along with about 10 more it was bundled
with) didn't quite make it through, but they did pass a new, improved
method of applying for the license plates.
So assuming the
Governor signs that bill into law, we can just apply for the plates using
the routine process.
