Bob Watts Bridge Dedication in KC Friday - first KC area Missouri River crossing to be renamed for former MoBikeFed Board Chair
Join us for an event Friday at 2pm on the north end of the Heart of America Bridge bike/ped path to commemorate a Kansas City area bike advocate whose advocacy had national impact.
Bob Watts of Liberty was one of the founders of MoBikeFed, a long-time chair of the board of the organization, a bike shop owner, and an advocate for better bicycling who made a real impact at the local, state, and national levels. Bob worked for many years with the Mid-American Regional Council's Bike/Ped Advisory Committee and other related committees--he even helped in creating the committee as well as the Council's bike/ped coordinator position--and had a hand in many of the good things that have happened with bicycling and trails around the region over the past 20 or 30 years.
We're very pleased that the in 2012 the Missouri General Assembly passed a bill officially naming the bike path on Kansas City's Heart of America Bridge the "Bob Watts Memorial Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge".
Now the signs have been ordered and printed. We're ready to celebrate with a dedication of the new Bob Watts Bridge.
We'll have a variety of speakers and dignitaries to help us celebrate the occasion and speak.
Come on down and join MoBikeFed, MoDOT, BikeWalkKC, dignitaries from a number of the agencies and contractors involved with the bike/ped path construction, and Bob's family to celebrate the dedication.
