2014 Tour of Kansas City Rider Guide
Thanks so much for registering for the Tour of Kansas City Grand Fondo and/or Fun Ride this weekend.
Below is all the information you need to pick up your packet and have a great time this weekend!
Most important info
- Before you come to packet pickup please print and complete your rider waiver - click to download the waiver.
- Both rides leave at 7:30am:
- Gran Fondo: Saturday, June 21st 7:30am, New Longview, Lee’s Summit (Google map, printable venue map)
- Fun Ride: Sunday, June 22nd 7:30am, Cliff Drive, Kansas City (Google map, printable venue map)
- Printable ride route maps, gps route files, etc, are below.
- You can check in just before the ride or come to an early packet pickup and save some time standing in line. Details below.
In your registration packet you will find:
1) Saturday Riders: Bib tag, sticker set, safety pins, and yellow wrist band. Following the instructions on your sticker set apply stickers to your helmet and seat post. These stickers contain your timing chips and are necessary for timing data collection. Your bib tag will double as your bike valet pick-up ticket. So be sure to keep your bib-tag if you check your bike!
2) Sunday Riders: Red Sunday wristband. Please wear your wristband Sunday to the event.
Gran Fondo Timing:
Click here to view timing results.
The Gran Fondo is chip timed for your individual time from the initial time station to the finish line and also at one or two time trial segments, depending on the course you choose.
Overall timing: The Gran Fondo starts with a neutral 'parade start' as we do a lap around the Longview Crit race course. Fondo timing starts after we exit the course; your individual timing chip will be picked up as you pass the timing station, which will be well marked. Your finish time will be registered when you pass the timing station at the finish line at the top of our Summit Finish.
Piccolo, Medio, and Gran Fondo riders (54, 72, and 105 miles) will experience the 203rd Street Time Trial, approximately mile 18.00 to 20.25, on the beautiful, fast rolling hills of 203rd Street south of Raymore.
All riders will experience the Summit Finish Time Trial, about the last 700 feet on the uphill climb to the finish line. The Summit Finish Time Trial starts just after you turn off 3rd Street to enter the Summit Finish area.
All timing stations, start and finish, will be well marked and pick up your individual time from your timing chip as you pass the station.
Remember that the Gran Fondo timing is for individual results and individual best only. It is not a race; roads are open to ordinary traffic; riders are required to follow all ordinary traffic laws and rules.
Route Maps
You might wait to download GPS Routes or print PDF routes until the evening before the ride--corrections and last-minute route adjustments are still coming in from our Route Marking Teams. If you have downloaded them earlier in the week you might re-download the evening before the ride to be sure you have all updates and changes.

Remember that the 48 and 65 mile Fun Ride routes include the 30-mile "Hell Loop" option--30 miles of some of the hardest climbing the KC area has to offer. Eight climbs within thirty miles, most of them pushing 10% and the grand finales clocking in at over 12.5% and 15%. Tackle the "Hell Loop" only if you're up for a major challenge.
By contrast, the 17 and 35 mile route options feature easy, rolling hills highlighting major KC area landmarks.
Easy as pie or hard as the dickens--with the Fun Ride, you can choose either option.
