Maryville's growing trail system is walk of the town - Maryville Daily Forum: News

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

Construction continued in earnest during 2014 on Maryville’s rapidly expanding system of paved pedestrian trails.

Nearing completion as the new year got under way was a .63-mile east-west trail running west along East Seventh Street between North Davis and North Main, then north on Main and west again on West Ninth to Northwest Missouri State University. . . .

Work on a second major trail segment, first authorized by the City Council in 2008, wrapped up last fall.

MoBikeFed comment: Maryville is one of a growing number of small and medium sized towns in Missouri that have transformed themselves into places that are far friendlier and more inviting for people who bike and walk.

When Maryville first proposed its trail and bikeway system, residents were concerned and neighbors opposed the plans. Now that residents have seen the trail system in action, the initial concern has turned into a groundswell of support that has encouraged the city council to continue to add to the trail system--including the projects listed in this article.
