The Surface Transportation Board (STB) announced negotiations may proceed to abandon and convert the Rock Island line in Missouri into a trail.

Following a press release from the STB Feb. 26, regarding a decision to deny a stay and public hearing request from the Missouri Farm Bureau (MFB) and proceed with a notice of interim trail use (NITU), Brent Hugh, executive director of the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation, described the announcement as a major step forward.
