Sunset Hills Board Resists Move To Impeach Mayor Who Struck Cyclist, Then Fled | South County Times

Headlines are quick hits from media outlets from Missouri and around the world. Follow the headline link for the full story. The source of this headline says:

The Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen did not impeach the mayor at its Tuesday meeting, but did vote to hire a legal firm for counsel should impeachment occur. . . .

Mayor Mark Furrer is facing felony charges of second-degree assault and first-degree property damage stemming from an altercation with Fenton cyclist Randy Murdick on July 29 on Old Gravois Road. He pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment in January, and his jury trial date has been set for Dec. 14, 2015.

There may be no clear public consensus on whether the Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen should impeach embattled Mayor Mark Furrer, but residents who oppose his removal continue to turn out in larger numbers than those who support it at board meetings. . . .

Murdick's attorney, Michelle Funkenbusch, said the board should not allow Furrer's attorney to intimidate them and should proceed with proper legal counsel.

In the board's 5-3 vote, Aldermen Dee Baebler, Scott Haggerty and Jan Hoffman voted yes.
