MoBikeFed comment: This very important deal was announced by Jackson County, KCATA, and Union Pacific RR last September. The filing linked here is just another step on the way to completing the deal.Jackson County will acquire the rail line located between Milepost 288.3 and Milepost 270.6 in Jackson County, Missouri. Jackson County, doing business as the Rock Island Rail Corridor Authority, will provide service. As noted above, substantially all of the rail line is out of service and the rail line presently has no customers.
According to the filing, the parties expect the sale be finalized March 31st, 2016.
This acquisition is a big deal for the County, for the KC metro area, for the Rock Island Trail State Park and Katy Trail State Park, which connect to them, and for the state as a whole.
It is good to have these indications that the deal is still on track.
