MoBikeFed comment: Report cards for all Missouri communities who recently renewed their Bicycle Friendly Community status can be found here:Lee’s Summit has once again been named a Bronze Level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) by the League of American Bicyclists. The League of American Bicyclists welcomed 26 new and 77 renewing BFCs in what was the largest application round in the program’s history.
Communities, businesses and universities are assessed for the bicycle friendly program through a voluntary application process. Applications are reviewed by both a panel of national bicycle experts and local reviewers, and a report card is produced with recommendations on how to improve conditions for bicycling. Lee’s Summit’s report card can be found here. Levels are awarded based on excellence in five categories - engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation and planning - with Bronze Level communities generally exhibiting excellence in one or two categories. In the Kansas City metropolitan area, Kansas City, Mo., and Shawnee, Kan., join Lee’s Summit at the Bronze Level.
