2) I understand there’s a new walking trail in the works for Moberly. Can you tell me more about that?

We were approved for funding to complete a trail between Cedar Ridge and South Town along the south side of Route M. It is proposed to be six feet wide with a lighted crossing just West of the Gratz-Brown intersection.

3) Is the trail completed?

No. We were approved for funding and are awaiting an agreement from (the Missouri Department of Transportation), who administers the federal funds for this program.

4) What led to the idea for the trail?

The existing trails on the north side of Route M were part of our original trail master plan. The goal was to have trails/sidewalks all around the school complex so that students within the one-mile perimeter (not eligible to ride the bus) and beyond would have off-street access to school.

Route M is a main route with heavy, faster traffic, and numerous kids live south of the road in multiple subdivisions and apartment complexes. Route M creates a barrier for the students and/or families to safely access the existing trail on the north side of Route M.

The approved new sidewalk/trail will provide access for the students and people in these developments to walk or ride bikes off-street to a central lighted crossing to access the existing trail system.
