The much-anticipated path for bikers, walkers and runners in Jackson County is delayed.

The Rock Island shared-use path turns an old rail line into a 17-mile trail leading to the Katy trail....

"When I heard this was coming I was, like, hopefully in my lifetime,” Mary Kreikemeier, who walked the trail Wednesday, said. “Then all of a sudden, here it is."

The project planned for 20 years was expected to open last fall. Now, the plan is this summer.

The county blames having more work to do and weather. Some landowners have also been fighting the path in federal court and through the Surface Transportation Board.
