Before & After: Great Rivers Greenways' Centennial Greenway makes major bike/ped improvement to Delmar/I-170 area in St Louis, celebration June 17th

Great Rivers Greenway is celebrating some really major improvements to the Centennial Greenway at the intersection of Delmar Blvd, McKnight, I-170, and the Centennial Greenway.

Great Rivers says:

Improvements to the intersection where the Centennial Greenway: Shaw Park to Olive crosses Delmar Blvd. are complete! Stop by to see the new intersection at a celebration on June 17, 2019! We’ll be on the greenway between 4:30 and 6:30 pm with some treats, maps and other greenway swag. Hope to see you then!

As you can see from the before and after photos below, the improvements in bicycle & pedestrian access through these difficult intersections are huge.

Green is for bicyclists only, so there is a separate portion of the crosswalk, in white, for pedestrians.

Overview--Centennial Greenway connection through a difficult intersection:

It's great to see agencies tackling our more difficult bike, ped, and trail connection problems.  A connection like this is in a difficult setting, a very urban area with a lot of competition for space. Sometimes in this type of situation, it will cost more to connect a trail, sidewalk, or bikewalk a few hundred yards than 10 miles of trail might cost out in a greenfield situation.

But--this is where people live and where people travel.  Many people.

We need connections like this in places like this most of all.
