[T]he idea from the city ... aims to slow traffic down on three major downtown streets - 4th, Broadway, and Washington Avenue.

“To make it safer and more convenient for people to get around using different modes of transportation,” said Scott Ogilvie, program manager for Complete Streets in St. Louis.

Ogilvie said construction is set to start next year on a plan that reduces the lane sizes on three major downtown roads while also extending the curb and adding medians. . . .
“The narrower the lanes, the more traffic is going to be calmed then.”

The plan also calls for a separated bike lane on 4th Street to add connectivity to bicyclists going north-south.

Ogilvie says St. Louisans should get used to seeing more of this type of design.

“There’s going to be a lot in the coming years,” he said.
