Building the Trail

Join city and county elected officials from Rock Island Trail Communities and local Rock Island Trail advocates/supporters in a free training to learn about:

Advocating for the trail
Steps for creating a community active transportation plan and why a plan is important for securing funding
Funding sources and opportunities
The latest Missouri State Parks Rock Island update
Opportunities for networking with other Rock Island Trail Communities

The training is funded by Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Active Living Community of Practice (ALCP) grant. Nine communities along the Rock Island Trail have received ALCP grants, which will help them develop the Rock Island Trail through their communities, and use the development of the trail as an opportunity to build active living opportunities and bike/ped connections throughout their communities.

First annual Rock Island Fall Festival in Stover Oct 8-9, celebrating the Rock Island Trail

Stover, at mile marker 185.5 of the forthcoming Rock Island Trail State park, is starting a new Rock Island Fall Festival this year. Stover is north of Lake of the Ozarks and southeast of Sedalia. The Rock Island Fall Festival starts at 9am on Saturday, October 8th, 2022. Events continue in different locations around Stover throughout the weekend.

As communities in central Missouri work towards and hope for the development of the Rock Island Trail, which would follow the old Rock Island Rail Line, some are already pioneering the kinds of events that punctuate a traveler’s trip along the trail.

The little town of Stover touches the very northernmost points of Lake of the Ozarks, with three Missouri Department of Conservation Access Areas, Big Buffalo Creek Conservation Area, Carpenter Memorial Conservation Area, and Wigwam Access. The former Rock Island Railroad line winds through the middle of the charming downtown district, where it was once used to deliver and pick up from the still-existing Stover Milling Company.

Public meeting scheduled for Mid-Eastern Section of Katy Trail State Park Oct. 16 in conjunction with the 12th Annual Treloar Elevator Party

MIssouri State Parks is holding a public meeting about the mid-eastern section of the Katy Trail on Sunday, October 16th. The public meeting is in conjuction with the 12th annual Treloar Elevator Party held the same day, 11am-3pm.

The Treloar Elevator is at Katy Trail mile marker 84.4 near Marthasville.
