Bike-on-Bus use in St. Louis skyrocketing
Submitted by Brent Hugh on Thu, 04/08/2004 - 4:54pm
Bob Foster, Chair of the St. Louis Bicycle Federation, reports that the St. Louis Metro now has bike racks on 100% of buses on both sides of the river, and roll-on access for bikes at all hours on the light rail system. With good weather, system usage is increasing dramatically:
Jan. '04 889 bike boardings 606% increase from same month last year
Feb. '04 820 bike boardings 652% increase from same month last year
Mar. '04 1,327 bike boardings 756% increase from same month last year
However, impressive as these numbers are, we believe these numbers are far lower than actual boardings, because they are based on drivers calling in the boarding, which in many cases does not happen.
