Letter to the Editor controversy in St. Louis Suburban Journals

There has been a bit of a controversy lately about bicycling on the roadway in the St. Louis Suburban Journals. A sample letter to the editor reads in part:
After reading the comments in Town Talk from those people who are for or against bicycles on the pavement of streets, and from my experiences, I must agree with those wanting to ban the bikes.

The person who said that the roads are public streets where bikes belong; that sidewalks are for walking, and that it only takes about three second for a driver to slow down and go around bike riders, is living in la-la land.
