Iowa's new bicycle safety law
According to a KTVO-TV article, Iowa's new bicycle & motorcycle safety law includes an educational compenent and enhanced penalties:
The Iowa Department of Transportation will release new materials for drivers education classes this coming fall.More details here. This is somewhat similar to legislation passed this year in Missouri. "Clutch's Law" adds stronger penalties when drivers fail to yield the right of way and that causes an injury or death. MoBikeFed supported this legislation.
"To educate is a lot better than to medicate later on," Carlisle said.
There is another piece to the new legislation to protect bikers. The law enhances penalties for motor vehicle violations resulting in serious injury or death of a motorcyclists or a bicyclist.
