Annual Gateway Cup kicks off in St. Louis

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports:
The Gateway Cup is a four-day series of races over the Labor Day weekend, in four neighborhoods around St. Louis. This year's races feature about 600 pro and amateur riders from around the country. They come from as many as 25 states, as far away as California and New Jersey.

The race that circled Lafayette Park saw the more advanced cyclists moving at speeds of more than 40 mph. . . .

Michael Gibson, who brought seven men from a Denver cycling team, said the St. Louis event has "the best crowds in the nation. It's just a tradition for families to plan for it, and they come out and watch and barbecue, especially on the Hill."
The Cup includes four races Sep 1-4, 2006. For details see the Gateway Cup web site.
