STL area River Des Peres trail to grow; Jefferson City trailhead built

A Post-Dispatch story tells of a one-mile extension of the River Des Peres trail in the St. Louis area:
The $2 million extension will go along Germania Street east to Interstate 55 from Morganford Road, eastern terminus of the 3.5-mile trail that opened in 2005.
Meanwhile in Jefferson City a long-planned trailhead was opened near the capitol:
The new trailhead is part of a park which sits on Missouri State Capitol grounds. It will feature a Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Monument, a water feature and a Missouri bluff.

The trailhead has been in the planning stages for seven years and planners said much progress has been made in that time.
The Jefferson City trailhead will lead to the Katy Trail extension across the Missouri River bridge, for which final fundraising is underway.
