St. Louis triples size of Bike St. Louis route system

Bike St. Louis has tripled the number of miles in the St. Louis City bicycle route system, according to this article from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch:
To gear up for National Bike to Work Week, which starts May 12, we turn to the recent tripling of Bike St. Louis routes in the area.

Lines and arrows are almost complete for 57 new miles of on-street bike paths in St. Louis and St. Louis County.

This is the second phase of Bike St. Louis — a coordinated effort between St. Louis and the Great Rivers Greenway District. It extends the 20 miles of routes rolled out in 2004, connecting Forest Park to the Gateway Arch, to Lafayette Square and Tower Grove Park.

The new routes stretch from West Florissant Avenue to Holly Hills Boulevard, and into Maplewood and Clayton. They connect just about every park and MetroLink stop in between.

The new routes are mostly marked with pavement arrows that more or less remind everyone of bicyclists' right to be there. They also seek to make bicycle riders feel more welcome on the road.
