WHAT: Officials with the State of Missouri and race organizers will announce the
overall route and cities playing host to a start or finish of the seven-day race
taking place September 7-13, 2009.
The 2009 race has been upgraded to the highest status by the Union Cycliste Internationale, the international governing body of the sport of cycling. The upgrade from 2.1 in 2008 to this year’s 'above category' (2.Hors Category) ranking places the Tour of Missouri on par with an elite group of major professional stage races outside of Europe.
The only other American race with an equivalent ranking is the Amgen Tour of California, which is organized by Medalist Sports, the same entity which manages the Tour of Missouri.
Additional details will be announced on select key sponsors continuing their support of the race.
WHEN: 11:30 am CST on Tuesday, January 27, 2009
WHO: Those scheduled to attend include:
Lt. Governor Peter Kinder – chair of the Missouri Tourism Commission
Jim Perch – marketing resources director, Missouri Farm Bureau
Chris Aronhalt – managing partner, Medalist Sports
Steve Brunner – president, King of the Mountain Sports
WHERE: Doubletree Hotel - Bella Vista Room
422 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101
